Afterclass AI is an AI-powered learning app built for Indian students. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
1. Who We Are
Afterclass AI ("we", "our", "us") is an AI-powered educational platform available on Android. We provide personalised tutoring, interactive Blackboard lessons, voice-based explanations, quizzes, daily challenges, and NCERT-aligned content across all Indian school subjects and regional languages.

2. Information We Collect
2a. Information You Provide
- Account details — email address and display name, provided when you sign in via Google or email/password (Firebase Authentication).
- School & grade — entered during onboarding to personalise lesson content.
- Chat messages & questions — the questions and text you send to the AI teacher, stored to provide conversational context and improve response quality.
- Images — photos you upload for image-based questions (e.g., photographing a textbook problem). These are processed to generate answers and are not stored permanently.
- Payment information — processed entirely by Razorpay. We do not store card numbers or UPI credentials. We only store the plan type and transaction IDs to manage your subscription.
2b. Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data — lesson topics, chat session counts, quiz results, and features used, to track daily quotas and credit usage.
- Device information — device model, Android version, and app version for crash reporting and compatibility.
- IP address — logged by our server for security purposes and rate limiting. Not linked to your profile.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To deliver personalised AI-generated lessons and chat responses in your language and grade level.
- To power the Blackboard lesson feature — generating step-by-step explanations, animated diagrams, and educational images.
- To provide AI voice narration (Text-to-Speech) using Google Cloud TTS.
- To enforce daily free-session limits and manage your credit balance.
- To process subscription payments and unlock premium features.
- To send you daily challenge notifications (only if you have enabled notifications).
- To improve the app — aggregated, anonymised usage patterns help us make lessons better.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database (Firestore), and crash analytics.
- Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — converts lesson text to spoken audio. Text is sent to Google's servers for synthesis.
- Google AI (Gemini) — powers the AI tutor responses and lesson generation.
- Razorpay — payment processing for subscriptions and credit top-ups.
- Wikimedia Commons — educational images fetched for Blackboard lessons. No personal data is shared.
- YouTube Data API — used to suggest educational video links. No personal data is shared.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore (servers located in Asia). We apply the following security measures:
- All communication between the app and our server uses HTTPS (TLS encryption).
- Firebase Authentication tokens are required for all API requests.
- Firestore security rules restrict each user to their own data.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers.
6. Children's Privacy
Afterclass AI is designed for school students, including those under 13. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information beyond what is needed to provide the educational service. We do not display advertising. Parents or guardians may contact us to request deletion of a child's account and data at any time.
7. Your Rights & Choices
- Access — you can view your profile and usage data inside the app.
- Correction — update your name, school, or grade in Settings.
- Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data from this page or from within the app under Settings → Delete Account.
- Notifications — you can disable push notifications in your device settings at any time.
- Data portability — contact us to request a copy of your stored data.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Chat history older than 90 days may be automatically archived. When you delete your account, all personally identifiable data is permanently removed within 30 days.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via an in-app notification. Continued use of Afterclass AI after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
